What is the DJI Fly App, and How Does it Work?

The DJI Fly App gives you unrivalled access and control of everything to do with your DJI and every picture/video it takes. You can think of the app being split into 5 major parts: 

1. Fly Spots

View or share suitable flight and shooting locations nearby, learn more about GEO Zones, and preview aerial photos of different locations taken by other users.

2. Academy

Tap the icon in the top right corner to enter Academy and view product tutorials, flight tips, flight safety notices, and manual documents.

3. Album

View photos and videos from DJI Fly and your mobile device. MasterShots and QuickShots videos can be viewed after downloading them to your mobile device and rendering. 

Tap Create and select Templates or Pro. Templates provide an auto-edit feature for imported footage. Pro allows users to edit footage manually.

4. SkyPixel

Enter SkyPixel to view videos and photos shared by users.

5. Profile

View account information and flight records; visit the DJI forum and online store; access the Find My Drone feature and other settings such as firmware updates, camera view, cached data, account privacy, and language.

Shooting Modes

1. Landscape/Portrait Mode Switch: Tap to switch between Landscape and Portrait modes. The camera will rotate 90 degrees when switching to Portrait mode, for shooting portrait videos and photos. Portrait mode is not supported when using MasterShots, Pano, or the Asteroid shooting mode in QuickShots. (Only DJI Mini 3/3 Pro.)
2. Zoom: The icon shows the zoom ratio. Tap to adjust the zoom ratio. Tap and hold the icon to expand the zoom bar and slide on the bar to adjust the zoom ratio.
3. Shutter/Record Button: Tap to take a photo or to start or stop recording a video.
4. Focus Button: Tap the icon to switch the focus mode. Tap and hold the icon to expand the focus bar and slide on the bar to focus the camera.
5. Playback: Tap to enter playback and preview photos and videos as soon as they are captured.
6. Camera Mode Switch: Choose between Auto and Pro modes when in photo mode. The parameters differ with each mode.
7. Shooting Parameters: Displays the current shooting parameters. Tap to access parameter settings.
8. MicroSD Card Information: Displays the remaining number of photos or video recording time on the current microSD card. Tap to view the available capacity of the microSD card.

Map

Tap to switch to the ‘Altitude Indicator’, which displays information such as the orientation and tilt angle of the aircraft, as well as the locations of the remote controller and the Home Point.

Auto Takeoff/Landing/RTH

Tap the icon. When the prompt appears, press and hold the button to initiate auto takeoff or landing.

Are There Any Legal Regulations for Flying DJI Drones in Australia?

Here is a quick list of the legal regulations, set by the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority: 

• You must not fly your drone higher than 120 metres (400 feet) above ground level.
• You must keep your drone at least 30 metres away from other people.
• You must only fly one drone at a time.
• Respect personal privacy. Don’t record or photograph people without their consent – this may breach other laws
• If your drone weighs more than 250 grams, you must fly at least 5.5 kilometres away from a controlled airport, which generally has a control tower at it. Use a drone safety app to find out where you can and can’t fly.
• Remember, you must not operate your drone in a way that creates a hazard to another aircraft, person or property.
• You must only fly during the day and you must not fly through clouds or fog.

How Do I Calibrate the Compass on My DJI Drone?

1. Open the DJI GO app and connect your drone to the remote controller.

2. Enter the camera view and go to the camera settings.

3. Scroll down until you see "Advanced Settings" and tap it.

4. Scroll down again until you see "Sensors" and tap it.

5. Tap "Compass" to access the compass settings.

6. Tap "Calibrate" to start the calibration process.

7. Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the compass. These instructions typically involve rotating the drone around its different axes while keeping it level.

Once you have completed the calibration, the app will display a message indicating that the calibration was successful.

Confirm that the compass reading is stable and accurate by checking the compass icon in the top left corner of the DJI GO app. The icon should be green and show a number indicating the drone's orientation.

If the compass reading is not stable or accurate, you may need to calibrate the compass or adjust the drone's location.
